Statement by Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly, Archbishop of Cashel & Emly, on the death of Bishop Donal Murray
It is with sadness that I have learnt of the death of Bishop Donal Murray, RIP, after a time of illness. On behalf of the priests, religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese, together with Archbishop Emeritus, Dermot Clifford, I extend my sincere sympathy to Bishop Donal’s family, friends, Bishop Brendan Leahy, priests, religious and lay faithful of the diocese of Limerick, on the death of their gentle shepherd.
Bishop Donal’s final months on this earth were filled with illness and suffering. I pray that now he will experience the eternal peace and healing of God’s heavenly kingdom.
I thank God for Bishop Donal’s years of ministry and service. He endeavoured to serve faithfully – through his ministry of priest and bishop, the community of believers entrusted to his care.
With trust in the Risen Lord let us pray for the happy repose of his gentle soul and commend him to the father’s eternal love.
Assuring family members of Bishop Donal of our prayerful remembrance at this time of sorrow and grief.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
