Seinn Cashel & Emly 2019
7.30 pm on 5th December 2019
Cathedral of the Assumption – all welcome
“Seinn Cashel and Emly” is a project promoting and encouraging liturgical music in secondary schools. Students from secondary schools in Cashel & Emly, stretching from east Limerick to across Tipperary, will be raising their voices and their hands in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Thursday, December 5th, at 7.30p.m. It will be a whole day event as rehearsals and workshops will commence at 11.30am in the Premier Hall, Rossa St. Thurles and conclude after lunch for the final rehearsal in the Cathedral at 3.00pm.
This will only be the fourth time that such an event is being staged in our diocese, and it builds upon the success of similar ventures held in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles. The schools participating this year are; St. John the Baptist Community School, Hospital, Scoil na Trionoide Naofa, Doon, Cashel Community School; Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles; Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed, Thurles; Our Lady’s Secondary School, Templemore; St. Ailbe’s Secondary School, Tipperary; St. Anne’s Secondary School, Tipperary and Presentation Secondary School, Ballingarry.
Seinn offers students and teachers a liturgical music repertoire which can become integral to the celebration of key moments in the life of each school community. However, more importantly, it means that students become involved in a shared music experience, which encourages them to bring their faith to life. Once again, Ian Callanan is the music director for Seinn Cashel and Emly, and has been instrumental in bringing the project to its fruition. A renowned composer and arranger of music, a Cork man now resident in Tipperary, Ian will be conducting the band and chorus on the night, having facilitated music workshops in each of the participating schools over the last number of weeks. Soloists and musicians will be drawn from the schools, and no doubt, the students of Cashel and Emly will put us firmly on the map with their music and song.
A feature of the preparations for Seinn this year was an invitation to parish choirs to participate in Workshops, again conducted by Ian Callanan. These Seinn Workshops, held in early November at St. Anne’s Secondary School, Tipperary and Lamh Chunta, Bóthar na Naomh, Thurles enabled Ian to offer the story to the composition and arrangement of the Seinn 2019 repertoire. It was really appreciated by the choirs who can now led their voices to the singing at the Seinn event on December 5th in the Cathedral.
If you are a lover of music, the Cathedral of the Assumption is the place to be at 7.30pm on December 5th 2019. All are welcome. There is no admission charge on the night. Donations will be accepted and will go towards funding youth ministry projects such as Seinn in the diocese.
