Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly Pope John Paul II Awards
In November 2017, twenty-six young people from the Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly received the Pope John Paul II Award to mark their voluntary activity in parish, school and community over the previous 16 months.
This year we are trying to expand the award and encourage parishes and schools to register suitable candidates. The closing date for registration is Friday, February 9th 2018. The registration form should be accompanied by a €15 (non-refundable) enrolment fee.
For further information please also see – http://thepopejohnpauliiaward.com/cashel-emly
There will also be two information evenings in preparation for the annual Trocaire Lenten Campaign which begins in earnest on Ash Wednesday, February 14th.
These information evenings, being addressed by Fr Vincent Stapleton, CC, Thurles, will give an insight into the situation in Sierra Leone and the way that Trocaire addresses the problems there. Fr. Vincent will provide a template talk/some photos (via e-mail)/a short video that can be used in parishes over the weekends of Lent on the Trocaire campaign.
It is hoped that students undertaking the Pope John Paul Award will take this opportunity to make up their hours by (i) attendance at the information evening (1 hour/unit), (ii) prepare their own input, based on template, to be delivered at a weekend Mass/to an assembly or some classes in their school (1 hour/unit), (iii) deliver their prepared talk (1 hour/unit for each delivery), (iv) any fundraising initiative for Trocaire organised through school or parish, in which they participate as part of the award (1 award top-up).
