Seinn Cashel and Emly 2019
Including Workshops* for Parish Choirs.
“Seinn Cashel and Emly” is a project promoting and encouraging liturgical music in secondary schools. Students from ten secondary schools in Cashel & Emly, stretching from east Limerick to across Tipperary, will be raising their voices and their hands in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Thursday, December 5th, at 7.30p.m. It will be a whole day event as rehearsals and workshops will commence at 11.30am in the Premier Hall, Rossa St., Thurles and conclude after lunch for the final rehearsal in the Cathedral at 3.00pm.
This will only be the fourth time that such an event is being staged in our diocese, and it builds upon the success of similar ventures, including Emmanuel in Dublin and Seinn in Killaloe and Limerick dioceses. The schools from across the diocese who are involved this year are; St. John the Baptist Community School, Hospital, Scoil na Trionoide Naofa, Doon, Cashel Community School; Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles; Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed, Thurles; Our Lady’s Secondary School, Templemore; St. Ailbe’s Secondary School, Tipperary; St. Anne’s Secondary School, Tipperary, Scoil Ruáin, Killenaule and Presentation Secondary School, Ballingarry.
One of the advantages of this programme is that it offers students and teachers a liturgical music repertoire. However, more importantly, it means that students become involved in a shared music experience, which encourages them to bring their faith to life. Once again, Ian Callanan is the music director for Seinn Cashel and Emly, and has been instrumental in bringing the project to its fruition. A renowned composer and arranger of music, Ian will be conducting the band and chorus on the night, having facilitated music workshops in each of the participating schools over the last number of weeks. Soloists and musicians will be drawn from the schools, and no doubt, the students of Cashel and Emly will put us firmly on the map with their music and song.
In addition, all parish choirs are invited to Workshops* to be conducted by Ian Callanan so that they can come to an appreciation of the music/song of Seinn 2019 as follows;
November 5th 2019 @ 7.30pm at St. Anne’s Secondary School, Tipperary and
November 7th 2019 @ 7.30pm at Bóthar na Naomh Church, Thurles.
Our hope is that those members of parish choirs who attend the workshops can come along and indeed, sing along at the Seinn event on December 5th in the Cathedral.
If you are a lover of music, the Cathedral of the Assumption is the place to be at 7.30pm on December 5th 2019. All are welcome. There is no admission charge on the night. Donations will be accepted and will go towards funding youth ministry projects such as Seinn in the diocese.
