“All are welcome”* to “lift your voices to the sky! Raise your hands and lift them high.”+
“Seinn Cashel and Emly” is a project promoting and encouraging liturgical music in secondary schools.
Students from all 19 secondary schools in Cashel & Emly are invited to raise their voices and their hands in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Wednesday, December 5th, at 7.30p.m. It will be a whole day event as rehearsals and workshops will commence at 11.30am in the Premier Hall, Rossa St., Thurles and conclude after lunch for the final rehearsal in the Cathedral at 3.00pm.
This will only be the third time that such an event is being staged in our diocese, and it builds upon the success of similar ventures, including Emmanuel in Dublin and Seinn in Killaloe and Limerick dioceses. The schools involved this year are from across the diocese – Cashel Community School; Rockwell College, Presentation Secondary School, Thurles; Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles; Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed, Thurles; Our Lady’s Secondary School, Templemore; St. Ailbe’s Secondary School, Tipperary; St. Anne’s Secondary School, Tipperary; St. John the Baptist Community School, Hospital, Presentation Secondary School, Ballingarry and Scoil na Trionoide Naofa, Doon.
One of the advantages of this programme is that it offers students and teachers a liturgical music repertoire. However, more importantly, it means that students become involved in a shared music experience, which encourages them to bring their faith to life. Once again, Ian Callanan is the music director for Seinn Cashel and Emly, and has been instrumental in bringing the project to its fruition. A renowned composer and arranger of music, Ian will be conducting the orchestra and chorus on the night, having facilitated a music workshop in each of the participating schools over the last number of weeks. Soloists and musicians will be drawn from the schools, and no doubt, the students of Cashel and Emly will put us firmly on the map with their music and song.
If you are a lover of music, the Cathedral of the Assumption is the place to be at 7.30pm on December 5th 2018. All are welcome. There is no admission charge on the night. Donations will be accepted and will go towards funding youth ministry projects such as Seinn in the diocese. View our Seinn event last year at:
